Caledonia Lights Up for Christmas

Caledonia Corner is pretty quiet these days, but very soon things are going to light right up in preparation for the holiday season.

Things get under way with Mary Lake Home Hardware’s annual Christmas Party on November 26th.  The store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with refreshments, a big door prize and store specials.  Santa will visit the children from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The next day, November 27th, the Memorial Tree Lighting at the Caledonia United Church at 7 p.m. will feature The Queens County Girls Choir directed by Kristopher Snarby and including our own Shayla Ross. There will also be the "Christmas music stylings" of Free Spirit and everyone is welcome to attend this lovely service.

December 2nd is a busy day in Caledonia.  The Eastern Star ladies will be hosting their annual Christmas luncheon at the Masonic Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This will be followed in the evening by the Board of Trade’s Christmas Tree Lighting at 7:00 at Caledonia Corner.  Right after the lights on the big tree are turned on, Georgie Uhlman will be taking the children for a horse-drawn wagon ride, and we understand that Santa will be on board!  While parents are waiting, and when the children return to the corner, refreshments will be served at the Caledonia Pharmasave. A little carolling sing-song will be part of the festivities, too.

The annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Caledonia Fire Hall will be held on December 3rd from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the usual dazzling assortment of craft items and delicious baked goods to get us started on our personal holiday preparations.

Two local churches are hosting Christmas celebrations on December 4th.  At 4p.m., St. Jerome’s Catholic Church will hold its Candle Lighting Service; and also at 7 p.m. Kempt Baptist Church will be holding its “Hanging of the Green” service.  All are welcome.

Santa makes another trip to Caledonia when he will be at Clover Farm on December 6th, from 4 to 6 p.m.  All the children who visit Santa will receive a bag of Christmas goodies and a photo of themselves with Jolly Old Saint Nick!

The North Queens Nursing Home will be lighting its outdoor Christmas Tree on December 8th and all are invited to that event which begins at 6:30 p.m. outside the nursing home.   Also at North Queens Nursing Home, on December 10th at 2:00 p.m. there will carolling along with a horse-drawn sleigh (or wagon, depending on the snow!).

The Second Annual Santa Claus Parade will be held Sunday, December 11th starting at 1:30  p.m. in Caledonia.  The parade will wind through town, along Route 8 in the village, and ending at the Caledonia Legion where the children’s Christmas party will be held.

Last year’s parade was such a fun and happy time for the community and this year’s parade is sure to be a memorable event too.

The “icing on the Christmas cake” for North Queens this year is that the Region of Queens Municipality has geared up our power poles for lighted roadside wreaths, for the first time ever!
